Fractionation

Fractionation (Dry/ Solvent)

Fractionation is a physical separation process with or without solvent used to separate oils and fats into solid and liquid fractions based on their different melting points and raw material characteristics. This process allows manufacturers to produce specialty fats with precise functional characteristics without altering the chemical structure of the oil. We specialize in palm oil/palm kernel oil fractionation with dry fractionation technology, while we offer solvent fractionation technology for shea butter fractionation.
In the fractionation process, the oil is carefully cooled under controlled conditions and as per pre-defined recipes to allow higher-melting triglycerides to crystallize.
The mixture is then separated into:

  • Solid fraction (stearin)
  • Liquid fraction (olein)

Separation is typically achieved using membrane filters to ensure high product purity and yield.
