Vertical Pressure Leaf Filter (VPLF) is a pressure vessel, shell cylindrical with a removable bolted dished-end top lid. The bottom part is conical to allow solids to slide out easily, provided with an appropriate size nozzle for fixing a butterfly valve for solid discharge. Inside the vessel, filtering screens, each with a filtered liquid outlet nozzle comprising an ‘O’ ring, are mounted and sealed on a bottom-side manifold that serves as a collection pipe, coupled with the outlet nozzle from the vessel Filter leaves MOC SS304 / SS316 / SS316L, rectangular in size with vertical segmentation and joined. Made of five layers of wire mesh of appropriate micron size, two fine outer layers for filtration and inner  third as support with mounting frame.

Mixture of bleaching earth / chemicals with oil called slurry is passed through the filter which is under positive pressure, solid portion of the slurry mass gets deposited on the filtering screens, and the clear bleached oil is collected at the bottom manifold and sent out.

When the filtering surface has accumulated solids, it is subjected to a steaming operation to squeeze out the residual oil. After ensuring optimum de-oiling is done, vessel is depressurized and the dried spent earth mass on the screens is dislodged by opening the bottom valve of the filter. To ensure complete dislodging, vibrator is used. This is a hermetically sealed system, with no contact of the oil with the atmosphere, helping to keep the filtered bleached oil quality intact up to the outlet.
