LOWTRANS® Deodorization System

Conventional deodorization of vegetable oils at elevated temperatures and extended retention times can promote the formation of trans fatty acid isomers, which are undesirable from a nutritional and regulatory standpoint. To meet stringent quality and health requirements, trans fat levels in refined edible oils must be tightly controlled through optimized deodorization conditions.
DVC’s LOWTRANS® Deodorization Technology is specifically engineered to minimize trans fatty acid isomer formation by operating under dual temperature zones combined with deep vacuum conditions, without compromising deodorization efficiency or product stability.

LOWTRANS® Edible Oil Deodorizer Process

The LOWTRANS® deodorization plant operates under a high vacuum of approximately 1.2 Torr and employs two distinct temperature zones:

High-Temperature Stripping Zone

In the first stage, oil heated to 245–260 °C in the FEVAC® Final Heater enters the stripping section. At this temperature, free fatty acids, odoriferous compounds, and other volatile components are efficiently removed through steam stripping under vacuum.

Low-Temperature Polishing Zone

Following high-temperature stripping, the oil temperature is reduced to 230–240 °C via regenerative heat exchange with incoming bleached oil directed to the final heater. This controlled temperature reduction limits thermal stress on the oil, thereby suppressing trans fatty acid isomer formation while completing deodorization.
